News: A More Traditional Approach to The Aqua Terra

The Seamaster: rugged, reliable, and one hell of a dive watch. The Seamaster’s laid-back brother, the Aqua Terra? Still just as reliable, but a little less tool and a little more pool. Choosing between the two is really a reflection of the needs of the owner and, well, personal taste. But what if your preference was something a little more traditional? Well, Omega has you covered.

The newest Omega on the block—or should I say Omegas, there are nearly twenty variations of this model—is the Aqua Terra Small Seconds. Like the name would suggest, this watch ditches the centre seconds hand in favour of a more traditional small seconds reading.

Located at 6, the new small second sub-dial can be seen recessed into the dial, intersecting with the existing date window. I will excuse the not being able to track seconds between 25 and 35 because I think it's a great feature—one that leaves the dial less cluttered and maintains the charming aesthetics the Aqua Terra is known for.

Speaking of those charming aesthetics. Looking at the watch, we see that really, nothing much has changed. It’s still got broad arrow hands, a deck-like dial with accompanying nautically themed hour markers, and it even has the same minute-tracked rehaut that made the original so legible.

Flipping over the watch—in the case of this full Sedna™ gold 41mm model—reveals the Omega Master Chronometer Calibre 8917. Being METAS certified—if you’re not sure what that means, click here—the Calibre 8917 is resistant to magnetism up to 15,000-gauss. In addition to that, this movement has a 60-hour power reserve, an 18K Sedna™ gold rotor-weight, and a balance bridge made of the same luxurious material.

As I mentioned before, this new Aqua Terra Small Seconds can be purchased in almost twenty variations—catering for all tastes and wallet sizes. From all-steel—costing £5,370—all the way to the watch we’ve featured here: the full Sedna™ gold 41mm model, which costs a whopping £28,630.
